Training Begins...Again

After the MS50, I took off the entire week. Although I wasn't too sore, I figured a week off would allow my system to get back to normal with rest.

My plan for Saturday was to hit Bartlett Park in the early AM before the snow started to melt. I was dressed out and ready to go when I was called in to work. By the time I finally got to Bartlett Park that afternoon, the snow had melted from the trails and it was like running up through a very cold and muddy creek. I ran the white trail up to the Outhouse loop and then headed back down the fire road to Memphis-Arlington Rd. Tired of running through all the water, I hit the streets for a few miles, ending back at my car with a little over 5 miles.

I wanted to run Sunday, but I had too many other things to do. So, I had to wait until today for another running fix.

Today's runs were split into two. The first part was on the treadmill at the gym while I waited on my step-son to finish band practice. I ran 4.1 miles in 36:48 (8:59 pace), which is a treadmill PR for me (I know...it's slow for most of you). The second run was on the streets after I got home. This was 4.55 miles in 42:02 (9:14 pace), which is another PR for me! I almost scrubbed the second run due to being tired, but figured I would run at least a couple of easy miles. By the end of the first mile, I was feeling great and kept running.

And so begins my training for Ouachita 50. I will most likely run just the 50k, but will decide later.
